South Korean PM’s visit of India

  • News: Republic of korea's Prime Minister Lee Jae Myung paid a State Visit to India from 19 - 21 April, 2026.

  • Background

    • including Busan-Mumbai, Incheon-Kolkata, and Ulsan-Chennai.

    • Diplomatic relations were established in 1973 and the Special Strategic Partnership was signed in 2015.
    • Sister-city and friendship-city relationships, 

    • Defence: Joint Venture of K9-Vajra howitzers.

    • The construction of the Queen Suriratna memorial in Ayodhya strengthens the cultural ties between the two nations.

    • India views the ROK as an indispensable partner in its "Act East” Policy.

    • Bilateral trade is $27 bn,

      • Target: $50 bn by 2030.

    • Aims at enhancing resilience in supply chains, promoting market diversification and advancing cooperation in cutting-edge technologies on the basis of mutual strategic trust.

    • Resumption of negotiation to upgrade the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

    • Launch of Economic Security Dialogue.

    • An India-ROK "Space Day” in collaboration with IN-SPACe in Bengaluru was celebrated on 20 April 2026.

    • Will Open office of Korea Marine Equipment Association (KOMEA) in Mumbai, the first such office.

  • MOUs: 

    • These include agreements in ports, steel supply chains, small and medium enterprises, science and technology, climate action, and Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs). 

    • Digital Payment Integration: NPCIL and KFTC signed an MOU.
