SEHAT– Science Excellence for Health through Agricultural Transformation
- Launch & Location: Launched on May 11, 2026 in New Delhi
- launched: jointly by Union Health Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda and Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
- Implementation: Jointly by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
- Objective: To integrate agriculture with improved nutrition, disease prevention, farmer welfare, and science-based policy-making.
To advance the vision of 'Healthy Food, Healthy Farms, and a Healthy India.' Under this mission, the focus will be on improving nutritional quality, reducing micronutrient deficiencies, preventing non-communicable diseases, and developing sustainable food systems. - Key Benefits:
- Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): The mission will play a decisive role in combating malnutrition as well as non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer.
- Convergence of Agriculture and Health: The core objective of this mission is to establish a robust bridge between farming, improved nutrition, and public health.
- Promotion of Bio-fortified Crops and Coarse Cereals: Under this initiative, special emphasis will be placed on promoting bio-fortified crops, nutrient-rich food products, and traditional 'Shree Anna' (millets).
- Enhanced Nutrition and Income: Integrated farming systems will not only serve as the foundation for the economic prosperity of farmers but will also strengthen the nutritional security of rural households.
- Health Security for Farmers: The initiative will focus on safe agricultural practices and awareness-building to minimize health risks arising from the unregulated use of pesticides and chemicals.
This initiative serves as an excellent example of the government's "Whole of Government" and "Whole of Systems" approach.
