National Quantum Mission: India Sets a New Record for 1,000 km Secure Communication Capability

India has successfully demonstrated a secure quantum communication network spanning 1,000 kilometers, making it one of the longest networks in the world.
This achievement has been realized in less than two years since the launch of the Quantum Mission in October 2024—far exceeding the original target of reaching 2,000 kilometers over an eight-year period.
Technology Development: QNu Labs (an Indian startup)
This network will significantly strengthen secure communication for the Armed Forces (Defense), banks (financial systems), and other critical national infrastructure.
Significance: This technology is designed to operate in challenging environments—including underwater and underground settings—making it useful for both civilian and strategic purposes.
Government Initiatives: The government is currently providing support to 17 quantum startups (up from a previous count of 8), including the addition of 9 new deep-tech ventures.
