⇒ The Ministry of Defence released “Defence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military”, prepared by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS). The vision aims to transform India’s armed forces into a modern, integrated and technologically advanced military by 2047.

Objectives of Defence Forces Vision 2047

Future Warfare Preparedness

  • Prepare the armed forces for multi-domain warfare involving cyber, space, artificial intelligence and information warfare.

Integrated Multi-Domain Operations

  • Transition from traditional service-centric structures to integrated joint command systems for operations across land, sea, air, cyber and space domains.

Self-Reliance in Defence

  • Promote Atmanirbharta by reducing import dependence and strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing through MSMEs, startups and domestic industries.

Technological Superiority

  • Increase the use of AI, drones, autonomous systems and AI-driven platforms to strengthen electronic and cognitive warfare capabilities.

Maritime Domain Awareness

  • Enhance maritime security and protect India’s strategic and economic interests in the Indian Ocean Region and key sea routes.

Operational Readiness

  • Build strong logistics networks, industrial surge capacity and war wastage reserves for long-duration conflicts.

Alignment with National Development Goals

  • Link defence transformation with India’s objective of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Recent Initiatives

  • Creation of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Department of Military Affairs (DMA) to improve jointness.
  • Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020 promoting indigenous defence production.
